Summary of WBMDR services

Accreditation

  • WBMDR and the Laboratory are ISO 9001 Registered (since May 1996).

  • The WBMDR holds a licence (no. 22497) issued by the UK regulatory authority to comply with the European Tissue and Cell Directive (2004/23/EC). This licence authorises the storage of tissues and/or cells intended for human application and also authorises the activity/activities of: procurement, testing and distribution, import/export of tissues and/or cells intended for human application.

  • The WBMDR is accredited by the WMDA (since May 2004).

  • The Laboratory is accredited by the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI) (since January 1998).

  • The Laboratory is accredited by Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Limited (since December 1995).

Haematopoietic Stem Cell (HSC) Donor Panel

  • Volunteer regular blood donors aged between 18-60 years
  • Over 50,000 HLA-A, B, DR, DQ typed donors
  • Over 85% of donors HLA-A and B typed by PCR-SSP
  • All donors HLA-DR and DQ typed by DNA methods
  • Over 50% of donors HLA-C typed by PCR-SSP
  • Able to allele level type over 95% of donors within 4 working days of request
  • CMV status (with test date) on over 85% of donors
  • Over 600 HSC donations supplied (UK and overseas)

Summary of WBMDR Services

Preliminary Search

 

A report will be issued to the requesting Registry giving details of HLA-A, B, DR "matched" donors.

This report will include the donors' HLA-DQ type and often include donors' HLA-C type.

Rapid expansion of donor HLA-A,B,DR,DQ
typing by WBMDR
using stored DNA

(usually reported within 4 working days of request)

Dispatch of Confirmatory Testing (CT) samples
for testing by Transplant Centre

Formal donor work-up of Heamopoeitic Progenitor Cells (HPCs) for unrelated transplant
