| This site provides
information on the Welsh Transplantation and Immunogenetics Laboratory's services supplied
for the medical and scientific community around the world largely for the benefit of
patients requiring an organ or bone marrow transplant. The Welsh Transplantation and Immunogenetics
Laboratory was founded in 1974 within the Welsh Blood Service.The service is located near
the village of Pontyclun a few miles to the north west of Cardiff, Wales' capital.

Welsh Transplantation and Immunogenetics
Laboratory (WTAIL) operates the: |

Welsh Histocompatiblity and Immunogenetics
Service - a predominantly local service in support of renal and bone marrow
transplant programmes; HLA and other phenotyping; and a platelet immunogenetics service. |

Welsh
Bone Marrow Donor Registry -
an independent registry managing the HLA testing and provision of stem cell donations from
unrelated donors for transplantation to patients in the UK and overseas. |

UK
National External Quality Assessment Schemes for Histocompatibility
and Immunogenetics - for the assessment of H & I laboratories
performance by providing material, results analysis, perfomance criteria
and, if required, professional support for laboratories in the UK
and overseas. |

laboratory is ISO 9001 registered and accredited by Clinical Pathology Accreditation [UK]
Limited and the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI). |
